THAMES VALLEY POLICE ISSUES

Public confidence in the UK’s police is at an all-time low

  • Conviction rates for serious crimes (rape, fraud, burglary) are in single figure percentages.
  • Eminent figures such as Baroness Casey and Baroness O’Loan report on widespread serious corruption, racism, misogyny, homophobia within the police.
  • Weekly, high-profile cases such as Cousens and Carrick demonstrate police forces looking after their colleagues and ex-colleagues ahead of the general public and victims of crime.
  • Regularly, we read of the criticism of police “marking their own homework” and the lack of independent scrutiny within the police.
  • Case after case in the media point to the Professional Standards Depts protecting fellow police against complaints instead of fairly investigating police officers.
  • The media reports cases of the victims being victimized by the police.
  • The Barber report points out the fundamental problems in the quality of police staff, of police vetting and the structure of the police organisation.
  • The Blue Wall is evident as the UK lurches towards a police state.
  • Sir Mark Rowley is taking an admirable approach to root out corruption from The Met, but ineffective police staff, contempt against the victim and corruption is far wider than just London.
